The Waddon Ponds, on the Sutton & Croydon border in South London, is a small haven and respite from the busy main roads that dominate the area. I was lucky early this week that this one swan was very ameniable and was happy to parade around right near the ponds edge .....

Thanks .... I am guilty of boosting the red channel for the beak and its reflection, just wanting to bring it out more. The deep blues were not boosted directly as such (ie no direct saturation or vibrance increase) .... they probably result from my RAW processor (Sagelight 4.0) which has a default 'Add Low Tone Contrast' setting (sort of an S curve in the shadows zone) when raising the shadows. This tends to bring colour out.
I do enjoy seeing people's pictures and the comments. Really interesting. I am finding it interesting how much we differ with our likes. My opinion is very much from a consumer type perspective. as opposed to a photograper's eye. I like the first one the most, although I find the crop uncomfortable. (I have no idea how i would like it though) The pose reminds me of the ballet. I love the reflection and the detail in the smaller ripples are really interesting.
Maybe the crop is a little tight? It could take a bit more space, I accept that. Thanks, you're right, its always interesting to read differing reactions. Thanks also Burnhole, Derek, Chris and DrO again for your comments.
Ah, I see now how that could be confusing I should perhaps have titled it 'The Swan IN Waddon Pond' ....or maybe 'ON' Waddon Pond' ? 'In' would rule out a pub I suppose. But it does raise the question of whether a swan is actually 'in', 'on', or 'at' a pond (in the situation as shown in my photos) ?
Yes, it's been a long day . ..... thanks, I'm pleased you saw the shots !
