The "What was your latest acquisition" thread

They have one of these on one of the other forums and I thought it'd be fun to have one here as well.
Nothing quite like the building excitement waiting for that package from Amazon or ebay to be delivered.

So fire away with your most recent photography related purchases and maybe leave feedback / opinions on the item in case it perks the interest of someone else and if you see something someone's bought and you have one , maybe give feedback too.

I'll kick off with a couple in a moment.

The "What was your latest acquisition" thread

OK so my most recent, arrived at work today, is this fella:

Pentax-A SMC 35-70mm f/3.5-4.5 Macro Zoom Lens PKA.

Got it for £20 off fleabay.

Reviews seem to be very mixed ranging from it's useful to keep dust off the mirror / sensor and not much more - through to it being quite a good little lens.

Anyone got one ? Thoughts if you have please ?

It's nice and compact, feels pretty well made and feels nice to use.

I find myself in the lucky position, well I think so, in that I am expecting 2 lenses to arrive this week first is a Pentax DA* 300mm f4,

The second is a Pentax F 28mm f2.8, these are two lenses I have wanted for a long time now but I never thought I would ever have them in the same week.

When they arrive I might even do a unboxing videos as I know how everybody just loves them

The "What was your latest acquisition" thread

So as some of you may know I do like a good Urban Explore. Now sometimes if a site is a large one and / or an impressive one (to my tastes) I can spend an awful long time mooching round - sometimes climbing through windows, squeezing past this and that etc. As an example a large hospital complex I visited twice earlier this year I spent a total of 13.5 hours, over two visits, wandering around.

Where is this going Mike, I hear you say. I'm getting there ... Ronnie Corbet like, but I'm getting there (You are now picturing him in THAT chair aren't you ?)

Now I'll be carrying My Manfrotto 190 (non carbon fibre version) with giotos ball head, atop this will sit my K511, I may well also have my K5 , with another lens attached as well as 2 -4 other lenses with me.

Now all that weighs quite a bit when you're mooching around an abandoned hospital, factory etc and sometimes I really feel it.

So I have sometimes wanted to lighten the load and sometimes really want to travel as light as poss. So the K5's give way to my Canon 500D , lenses down to 2-3 but that tripod is still quite heavy. So for a while I have been wanting to look at getting a lighter tripod. I looked at carbon fibre but most were:

1) Too expensive for my tastes
2) pretty poor quality, according to reviews, if they were at the cheaper end of the price scale
3) actually not hugely lighter than my manfroto.

So last week I bought a copy of Digital Photo and one of the articles was a review on sub £60 tripods - part of the reason for me buying it.

The one that came out on top was a brand I had never heard of but seemed to get a good review. So I went onto amazon and ordered one:

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31ikxABixIL.jpg

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Konig-High-Qual ... B0028ZNSV8

£48 I paid for mine. Not used it in anger yet - will update (subject to my atrocious memory - so do ask me if interested) when I have.

It seems pretty decent, given it's budget, it has a ball head, that the review rated as best of the ones reviewed, the qr plate has a safety release feature, centre column is reversible, feet are rubber but can be turned to reveal spikes and the legs can, allegedly (for I have not worked out how to do it) be locked in three positions.

Best of all, for my criteria, it weighs a mere 850g :)

Sure it's not going to be as rock solid as my manfroto and I would'n want to use it on a hill on a very windy day but for exploring and general use I suspect it will be just fine - for the price I am delighted :)

anyone else got / had one ?

I too thought that until I bought a IPS monitor from South Korea. I then decided to have my son video me opening it just to have proof that it was bust during transit should that be the case. I had no intention of posting it on-line though.

Incidentally, the 27 inch Black Label Monitors are absolutely stunning...same display panel as Apple so I'm told without the big price!

That's a very sensible idea. I've always took pics, and sometimes videos, of me parcelling up and posting valuable items for sale on Ebay. very handy if the buyer makes silly claims about it the item not being as described etc.
